Sports Massage Explained

Many of us experience muscle aches and pains that can be the effect of so many different things in our day to day life. It could be from sport, or from a busy lifestyle or general day to day niggles. These problems can be treated and prevented with the help of a Sports Massage. That’s why I would like to share the answers to some common questions about Sports Massage.

What is sports massage?

A form of massage which involves manipulation of soft tissue - the connective tissue that has not yet hardened into bone and cartilage. This includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (another form of connective tissue). Sports massage is designed to aid in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that can be caused by stress, repetitive physical activity and trauma.

Is it just for sports people?

Sports massage is not limited to just athletes. It can be for anyone experiencing feelings of stress/tension from a busy lifestyle, it can help prevent and treat injuries or painful niggles or simply to relax you after a long day!

Who will benefit from sports massage?

Anyone experiencing muscle tension, soreness, imbalances, stress or injuries inhibiting performance in daily life. The stimulatory effects of sports massage encourage the healing process and muscle recovery.

How regularly should I have a sports massage?

This is dependent on each individual case, however as a general guide we suggest every 3-4 weeks to maintain muscle health.
